Chevin Singers

11th May 2019

Market Place

During the Monthly Market, Chevin Singers will gather in the Market Place to celebrate 'Voices Of The Valley'. The name comes from the Chevin hill which overlooks the Derwent Valley to the West of Belper.

The name Chevin derives from the Celtic word Cefn, meaning 'ridge', and this forms part of an ancient route used by Celts, Romans and Anglo Saxons. We meet weekly and occasional performance opportunities are discussed by the choir members; there is no compulsion to perform. Most songs are taught by ear - so there is no need to be able to read music. A small weekly fee is paid by members to support the choir's activities; however, anyone can come along their first time for free to try the choir out.
