Trevor Griffin Toy Theatre

11th May 2019

2.30pm

The Strutts Centre

The Toy Theatre was a very popular entertainment in mid-nineteenth century Britain.

Young people performed abbreviated versions of stage plays, pantomimes and spectacles, including land and sea battles and even a coronation. These highly coloured cut outs were an exact replica of the actual costumes and stage scenery.

In this presentation, Trevor Griffin will also show how many great Victorians were influenced by Toy Theatre. He will demonstrate how it worked using an authentic antique miniature stage and there will be an opportunity to buy original and reprinted material at bargain prices.
